A Bar Z Outfitters and Mountain Adventures
This offering includes 2 distinct businesses, “A/Z Outfitters” which is the hunting outfitter arm of the business and “A Bar Z Mountain Adventures” which is the horseback and hiking adventure business which includes multi-day horse assisted hiking and pack trips for families and groups in the Purcell Wilderness.
A/Z Outfitters was established in 1948 by Dix Anderson. He began operating up Dutch Creek in the East Kootenays of British Columbia. Amongst the territory, backcountry cabins were built, only accessible by horse. Today, the territory operates the same way, using horses to pack up gear and hunt the mountains, and old cabins to stay in. In 1990, Bill DuBois bought the territory and continued guiding a variety of hunts including: elk, moose, mountain goat, mule deer, and black bear.
In 2010, Bill’s son, Brent DuBois bought the company and remains current owner. In 2016 Brent expanded the territory into Toby Creek by purchasing the neighbouring hunter territory as well. This means the 2 territories together offer 1,100 sq. miles, with about 600 sq. miles of this territory being inside the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy with nine separate cabin camps.
This is truly a prime trophy hunting destination, a real slice of pristine wilderness that is yours to be seen, featuring elk, goat, bear, moose, deer and cougar hunts. Impressive game, experienced guides and noble horses are surely providing hunters the hunt of a lifetime. Most of the clients are repeat customers, or have been referred from previous clients.
The 5-year quota includes 27 Mountain Goats and 14 Moose and the business sale includes 30 horses and all tack to facilitate hunting and trail rides/summer pack trips.
A Bar Z Mountain Adventures
A Bar Z Mountain Adventures offers beginner horse leads to 10-day overnight trips, and everything in between. They have dedicated wranglers and a string of faithful horses.
The tourism in the area is booming to the area from July through September and A Bar Z Mountain Adventures has capitalized on the influx of tourists offering one-hour horseback tours in Fairmont, BC suitable for any level of experience. The mountain trail loops around in one big circle where clients ride through the timber, through a small creek and up to a view point.
Bar Z Mountain Adventures guided hiking trips can be anywhere from an 8-hour experience, to a 7-day experience! With 700,000 acres of pristine wilderness and 16 cabin camps, Bar Z Mountain Adventures can customize your dream hiking adventure so that it is suited to your experience level. Since the territory involves many rivers, they prefer to call these trips “Horse-Assisted Hiking Trips”. With horses, they can pack up gear, and cross deep river crossings. The guide will lead the way with a string of saddled horses, so you can hike or ride as you please. They provide the horses, the cabins, and the FOOD! All you need to bring is you and your hiking gear.
Outfitter territories in this trophy country do not come up for sale often!!
Current operator has an extensive client list that would be made available to the new owner.
