Episode 63 – How to help a small town with big dreams grow featuring Leon Pigott

Lawyers. They are the butt of many jokes, often considered expensive, and not typically an aspect of people’s business or lives that they enjoy working with. On the other hand, law touches every aspect of our lives from marriage to death and everything in between, including the businesses we launch and run. Indeed the perception of lawyers being expensive may well be incorrect, and rather a good lawyer will save many hours of heartache and grief as well as money if used wisely. Yes a good lawyer will help set that foundation for your business, put in place the rules that keep you and your partners happy and functioning well, or separating cleanly if that’s the case. So is that lawyer expensive, or is it perhaps the best money you’ve ever spent as an entrepreneur?

Leon Pigott of Pigott & Co. in Nelson BC is a strong example of the type of lawyer that can be that wise investment of your early startup cash. As an entrepreneur himself, having been lured in by Nelson’s lifestyle siren song from bigger centers, he decided to launch his own firm with a specific focus on working with up and helping up and coming entrepreneurs lead the Kootenays into the next generation of business success.

I caught up with Leon at the Kootenay Coop Studios to talk about his own entrepreneurial journey as well as the two tips that every entrepreneur needs to know about the law and how and when lawyers can be a great investment in your business.
