DevTel – bringing a local option to Phone, Internet and TV services
Based in Canal Flats, DevTel is a local supplier of phone, internet, and TV services. DevTel was founded in 2011 by Devin Yawching. At the time, there was a big shift in companies offering internet to the Columbia Valley, and everyone with a 1-800 number was being left stranded without a phone service provider. This was a big problem; Devin recognized a big opportunity and decided to fill the void.
The CRTC, which regulates all telecommunications in Canada, mandates that major providers who own the infrastructure must resell access to other providers to maintain a competitive marketplace. Devin started offering phone and internet services and in 2017 Ed Jones became a partner in the growing tech business.
With Ed on board, DevTel started actively promoting their internet and phone services. The major driver for them has been word of mouth and their dedication to their customers. Offering a level of personal service unattainable by the nationwide providers, they have quickly built a loyal base. They pride themselves on the connection they form with customers, and customers really value having someone to connect with when needed. Great service and competitive pricing has been the magic combination for this tech duo.
As locals in the Columbia Valley, they understand the lack of coverage in many areas and they are working towards a solution. There are a few proposals in the works to connect some of those areas that are not yet serviced by broadband internet services.
Staying up to date by reading tech blogs and CRTC notices is all part of the fun for these two self declared nerds. Have one look at Ed’s ‘nerd cave’ at Mountain Hub in Invermere and you will get a glimpse at the passion these guys have for bringing the latest communications tech to the Columbia Valley.
