Hit the trails at the Elkford Nordic Ski Club
The Elkford Nordic Ski Club was formed in 1984 by Ross Taplin and started out with setting track at Boivin Creek. A track was also se at 7-Mile, just south of Elkford on Highway 43. Currently the Elkford Nordic Ski Club, along with their current president Kim Muller, have grown and now set up tracks at Boivin Creek trail in the winter months as well at Mountain Meadows Golf Club. The Elkford Nordic Ski Club offers Cross Country Skiing experiences for beginners to intermediate skiers from starting out on the nicely groomed trail at Mountain Meadows Golf Course which offers a round track setting, allows dogs and sleds, snowshoes on the trails and is a 2.5km double track around the golf course. From there you can step up your skills by hitting up Boivin Creek trail which has two huts, is for cross country skis only, and the round trip to the lower hut is approximately 7km with 150m vertical elevation. The round trip to the upper hut is approximately 14km with 300m vertical elevation.
Beyond the amazing views of the backcountry here in Elkford BC, the Elkford Nordic Ski Club grooms both trails on a regular basis during ski season, which is accomplished by snowmobile and grooming attachments. These special machines are designed for pulling loads uphill, a low speed, without overheating. They have wider tracks to handle deep snow and to provide a smooth, wide grooming surface.
Remember, before you hit the trails to see the kiosk at the Boivin Creek trailhead where you will find a map of the trail for safety, a list of regulations and guidelines using the trail, membership forms and log sheets as well you will find a donation box that goes to the cost of maintaining the trails. You can also become a member of the Elkford Nordic Ski Club for year-round use of the trails!
