Schutter Farms JV is a grain and hay farm located just five kilometres south of Invermere. The father and son team of Egbert and Ehren Schutter broke ground in spring 2018 with the idea to supply local wheat to the booming BC craft distillery market.

Their 180 acres overlooking Lake Windermere and the Rocky Mountains is a big change from their 4000 acre potato farm in Lethbridge. As Egbert approached retirement, he had a vision to start a smaller operation that would provide a direct to market product.

The Columbia Valley became an obvious choice as they were in search for a home with enough land to make a small profitable farm. Egbert has been growing grain all his life and recognizes that the Columbia Valley has the perfect climate with the extreme ability to grow multiple crops. Their first year was quite successful, producing an above average crop.

Distillery wheat is the perfect value added product, the Schutters grow, mill, bag, and deliver the wheat. In addition to grain, they have found a strong demand for small square hay bales, a favourite among horse owners.

Ehren is working hard at further expanding the farm but is making time to enjoy all the recreational opportunities the Columbia Valley has to offer.

Hops or other grain may be in the future but right now they are working on producing as much wheat as possible!
