Royal Theatre
Creating a strong foundation for a vibrant community is what keeps the Royal Theatre going. Owners Lisa and Jason Milne purchased the historic theatre in 2009 with the dream of bringing movie-goers back to Trail.
Catering to a wide audience, the Royal Theatre showcases a variety of entertainment, including live satellite events like the New York Metropolitan Opera, Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, and live theatre from London and around the world. Of course the Royal still has first-run Hollywood blockbusters, but it also has the advantage of showing films if full digital 3D—the first of its kind in the Kootenays.
Proving to be a welcome escape from reality for local patrons, the Royal also hosts private events and works with local filmmakers to give back to the community and offer rich programming for their audience.
Deciding to operate their business in Trail was easy, as both Lisa and Jason knew they wanted a good investment that had the potential to grow with the community they love so much. With the Royal Theatre in particular, there was also the added bonus of bringing back to life the beautiful building and being able to encompass a part of local heritage.
Another advantage of being a business owner in a small community is the direct contact you have with your clientele through seeing them in both work and play settings, allowing opportunities to hear their requests and respond to them accordingly.
Attributing their success to the strength and participation of the community, Lisa and Jason also give credence to the many local businesses who have jumped on board to support their events including, Teck, EZ Rock, the City of Trail, and the non-profit organizations they’ve partnered with.
