The Island Restaurant is a bar and grill located in a riverside log cabin in the heart of Golden, BC.

Golden-native Aaron Cundliffe opened the restaurant in 2009 with his wife Petra Nott. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also hosts special events. It’s well loved by locals and visitors alike.

The unique log building that houses The Island was originally built as a bookstore and has seen many different tenants over the years, including a fabric store and a heliski operator. But Aaron always thought it would be best used for a restaurant.

A chef by trade, Aaron’s culinary career took him around the world – including Australia where he met Petra. The couple settled back in Arron’s hometown of Golden and together they opened The Island.

Petra loves the friendly, small town feel of Golden, as well as the easy access to recreation and spectacular mountain scenery.

“You step back every now and then and you’re like, ‘everywhere I look there’s a view,’” she says. “I still think Golden is the most amazing little town.”
