A digital tool has been created by Revelstoke business development organizations after identifying an opportunity to provide information and resources to the local business community in an effective and timely manner. The collaborative project was spearheaded by the Business Information Centre team: Community Economic Development, the Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce, and Community Futures. The project was made possible with the support of Imagine Kootenay Capacity Funding. The primary goal is to provide businesses with easy accessto local business resources and expertise. It is an easy tool that allows businesses to visualize and interact with organizations and key service areas.
Businesses can be directed to the correct information stream for their situation. You can visit the following websites to see this tool in action:
Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce
Community Futures Revelstoke
City of Revelstoke – Community Economic Development
The final product you see online had lots of conversation and dialogue around what information should be included. In the end we assessed, by volume, an inventory of enquiries received by the Business Information Centre. From this information, the concept of a “one stop shop” for business information was created. As a team, it was agreed that an interactive infographic would work best to communicate key services areas and organizations that offered these services. We decided to create a “Revelstoke Business Resources” tool that would be housed on each of our organizations websites. The tool can help us communicate a consistent message to the business community on what each organizations’ key services are and how to contact them for further information.
The “Revelstoke Business Resource” can be used as a template by other communities in our region. Organizations were identified that many communities through out the Columbia-Kootenay region have representation from. There is an opportunity to have this resource built out further.
An outcome of this online tool is that it has brought organizations together and created further dialogue on how they each service businesses. In the long run, the hope is that it will minimize duplication and enhance community collaboration in fostering a positive entrepreneurial environment.
